Take Action: Reject Cuts and Support Transit Funding at the State Capitol
We know that Minnesotans want affordable and sustainable transportation options—and they overwhelmingly support public funding to make it easier for everyone to bike, walk, roll, and take transit. Thanks to advocates like you, we’ve made tremendous progress in recent years to remedy decades of underinvestment in public transit—but now state lawmakers are threatening to take us backward!
Please take action today: Tell lawmakers to reject funding cuts to critical public transit services!
In 2025, state lawmakers reversed progress and cut more than $108 million in public transit funding—while promising funds would be restored in later years. Now, Governor Walz is proposing to cut an additional $41.7 million from public transit operating funds for 2026-29.
Minnesotans can’t afford an underfunded public transit system. Public transit funding is an investment in more affordable cities, cleaner air, and better access to jobs, schools, groceries, healthcare, and visits with friends and family. Amidst the affordability crisis and proposed federal cuts to transit, we need state lawmakers to improve and expand transit service to meet the needs of our communities—not roll service back.
To create a more affordable, connected, and resilient Minnesota for everyone, we need legislators to expand funding for fast, frequent transit lines—like the METRO H Line connecting downtown Minneapolis to the east side of Saint Paul. We need them to make critical policy changes—like flexing highway dollars to sustainable transportation and giving a fair share of the Motor Vehicle Sales Tax to public transit—to unleash the funding we need to create the transportation system we all deserve.
Tell lawmakers to reject any cuts to public transit investments—including the Governor’s proposed $41 million cut for transit operations in the metro—and unrestrict resources that can deliver a transit system that works for everyone.
