Take Action: Final Push to Defend Transit Funding & Boost Bus Rapid Transit This Session
This weekend, Minnesota legislators are entering final negotiations over state funding—and both cuts to and new investments in public transit are still possible. We need your help today to ensure our state leaders are advocating for the affordable, sustainable transportation system Minnesotans deserve. Tell your lawmakers to defend against any last-minute cuts to public transit and champion bonding for bus rapid transit, before the legislative session ends on Sunday at midnight!
While progress on transit policy stalled in the split House transportation committee, deliberations over transit funding will be led by House and Senate leadership. Last year, state lawmakers cut over $108 million in public transit funding in a closed-door deal on the last day of session. This year, critical public transit dollars are again under threat: from the Governor’s early proposal to cut another $41 million from service in the Twin Cities metro to the yet-to-be-finalized details of a new budget agreement announced last night. As gas prices and the costs of daily life continue to rise, we can’t afford another surprise raid on transit.
Help us tell our leaders: Minnesotans need continued investment in fast and frequent transit, not cuts to essential services.
Thanks to the support of advocates like you, Minnesota has made historic progress on public transit in recent years, from expanding convenient bus rapid transit routes to improving safety and support services for people riding light rail. And, we have spent the past few years fighting to protect the hard-won, dedicated investments which are funding these positive changes. Let’s remind state leaders—funding public transit creates more affordable and resilient communities we’re depending on today and for our future generations.
In the last few days of Minnesota’s legislative session, help us make a final push and send a quick message now to ensure protecting and investing in public transit is a top priority for our lawmakers!
