Take Action: Tell Key Leaders to Reject Walz’s Transit Funding Cuts

In the coming weeks, our legislative leaders will negotiate over Governor Walz’s state budget proposal, which includes a $41.7 million cut to public transit funding. Tell your lawmakers that funding the affordable, sustainable transportation that Minnesotans need is nonnegotiable.

Our communities deserve (and overwhelmingly support) investments in a transportation system that makes our daily lives more affordable and protects the health of our families and climate. But last year, state lawmakers cut more than $108 million in public transit funding—while promising funds would be restored in later years. Now, Governor Walz is proposing to cut an additional $41.7 million from public transit operating funds for 2026-29. New cuts year after year shortchange long-overdue progress toward fast, frequent bus service people can rely on.

Take action today: Tell our state leaders to reject cuts to critical public transit services!

As Minnesotans recover from a federal occupation that left thousands of immigrant and low-income households struggling to afford rent, food, and transportation, and deal with rising gas prices from the war on Iran, we need our elected leaders to improve and expand transit services—not roll service back.

The House transportation committee concluded their work without agreeing on any budget recommendations, so Walz’s proposed funding cut will be deliberated over in negotiations between House and Senate leadership. Tell Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy, House DFL Leader Zack Stephenson, and state leadership to defend funding for public transit!
